How Do I Sign Up?
- Register for a Class: Sign up online and pick an audition time slot during checkout (or schedule it later in your family account).
- Keep the Commitment: Cast members must attend classes and the final showcase. A maximum of two non-illness class absences are allowed.
- Prepare for Audition Day: Auditions are open to friends and family! Arrive early or stay late to watch and support other students.
What Do I Prepare?
Vocal Audition:
- Choose a song from a Broadway musical or musical movie.
- Keep your audition to 90 seconds or less.
- Sing with an instrumental backing track—no a cappella auditions.
- Upload your backing track through the audition form before auditions.
Dance Audition:
- Dance auditions take place on the same evening as vocal auditions.
- A choreography video will be sent in your audition confirmation email. Please learn and practice the routine prior to your arrival at auditions.
- Performers will have a brief group review session before demonstrating the choreography for the artistic team in small groups.
Callbacks
- The artistic team may invite select students to return for additional singing, dancing, or scene readings. Check your family account late Friday night or Saturday morning for callback details.
- Callbacks vary in length from a few minutes to several hours. They are closed to all parents and spectators—please drop off your student and wait for a pickup text or call.
- A callback is not required to receive a role; many characters are cast directly from initial auditions. If you would like audition feedback, please wait one full week after callbacks before contacting the managing director.
Casting
- You will have the opportunity to indicate on your audition form whether you will accept any role (including ensemble) or only specific roles. If you list specific roles and cannot be placed in them, you will not be cast.
- Accepting a role means committing to the full production.
- Dropping out of a show after agreeing to accept any role affects future eligibility and may restrict you from auditioning for the next two main-stage sessions.
Rehearsal Conflicts
- List all known commitments (late arrivals, early departures, camps, trips, or events) on your audition form.
- No new conflicts may be added after casting. Excessive absences directly impact eligibility and placement.
- Rehearsals are typically Fridays (5:00–8:30 PM) and Saturdays (10:00 AM–4:00 PM), though exact times vary by production.
Out of Town During Auditions?
If you cannot attend auditions in person, video auditions may be accepted. Please arrange this with the show coordinator in advance. Video auditions must be submitted before the first night of auditions. Whenever possible, auditioning in person is recommended.
Students hoping to be considered for a lead role will generally need to be available for callbacks.
Parent Commitment
CYT productions depend on family volunteers. Each family must provide at least one parent or approved adult (21+) to serve on both a pre-show team and a show team, totaling 20+ volunteer hours.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Costumes
- Props and sets
- Sound and lights
- Hair and makeup
- Concessions
- Greenroom and backstage
- Photography
- Box office/house management
Parents must also:
- Attend 2 mandatory parent meetings
- Ensure students attend all assigned rehearsals
- Avoid adding conflicts after auditions
- Complete a CYT background check and online child-safety training if volunteering
Financial Commitment
There is no audition fee.
If your child is cast:
- $250 production fee
- Includes a show T-shirt & professional video of the production
- Families may also need to purchase personal costume items such as shoes, socks, undergarments, leggings, or other requested clothing.
- Volunteer background checks cost approximately $20 and do not need to be repeated for every show.
Ticket Sales
Each family is responsible for selling at least 12 production tickets through their online box-office link. Discounted tickets can be purchased by family and friends using the student's link.
Age Eligibility
- Students must be 18 or younger on the first night of class (turning 19 during the session is permitted). Students who are 7 years old must turn 8 by the final performance.
- Cast members must be in high school—graduated seniors are not eligible, even if they are still 18.
